Gifts of the Ghost
I’m Mags McAllister, and my cat is a ghost.
Well, sort of. It’s a long story.
All you really need to know is that, thanks to said cat, I can now see the spirits of people long past.
They bring me the mysteries surrounding their death and expect me to solve them. But you can’t exactly do a quick Google search to learn more about small-town events that happened more than a century ago.
Apparently you help one wayward specter and more will start appearing at the foot of your bed in the middle of the night. Uh-huh, I’m creeped out, too.
This time, a Victorian-era gentleman named Patrick is in need of my assistance. Now what could he possibly want?
I guess there’s only one way to find out…

It’s a sad day when I’m the Magical Corrections System’s best shot at bringing down a corrupt magic user who’s determined to sell his power to the highest bidder.
Yeah, my former con-man ways are turning into quite the asset for MCS, not that I ever get any thanks around here. They are, however, letting up on my leash a little to aid me in going undercover. Of course, as a tradeoff they’ve saddled me with a slobbery new chaperone.
I’ve only just gotten used to working with the girls, and now they stick me with a mangy dog shifter, who—like me—is stuck in his fur for the moment.
But you already knew I wasn’t a real cat, right?
I just look and act… and yeah, I smell like one, too. Not for much longer, though. Because if I can crack this case in record time, they just might reward me with my freedom. All I can say to that is FINALLY!

I’m Mags McAllister, and I am an honest-to-goodness modern-day candlestick maker. I work in my family’s shop in the historic district of Larkhaven, Georgia, and also make a pretty penny from sharing videos of my process online.
My life is simple, quiet, and all mine… until a white cat with mismatched eyes shows up outside my shop and refuses to leave. When I take him home, things get really weird. As in, I can now see things and people that were never there before.
It gets even freakier when a voiceless spirit introduces herself to me via a handwritten letter. This specter claims that I share her name and will also share her fate if we can’t solve the mystery that’s haunted our town since 1781… and quickly, because she won’t be able to maintain her strength for much longer.
Talk about a cold case! Can I actually find a way to free my eighteenth-century counterpart? Or has my new feline companion just signed my death warrant by opening my eyes to the secret supernatural plane in our otherwise sleepy small town?

Do a good job, and they give you even more work.
I’m not sure why I expected anything different from the goody two-shoes jerks at the Magical Corrections System. So here I am, a once-thief trying to keep these two-leggers on the straight and narrow. Have I mentioned I’m a shifter who’s been sentenced to remain in my cat form until my time is up?
Yeah, I’m a big fluffy cat with zero of my usual magic, but that doesn’t stop me from being the best temp agent the MCS has ever seen. And right now, my partners and I are tailing a mage bent on exposing magic to the world.
The stakes are high. The payout will be next-to-nothing.
If I play my cards right, I just might be able to earn my parole… and the heart of the woman I love, the woman who’s only ever known me as a sweet, little kitty cat. Right now they’ve got me busier than a one-eyed cat watching two mouse holes, but that can’t last forever. Right? RIGHT?!

My name is Moss O’Malley, and I’ve just been sentenced to three years in the magical corrections system. Thanks to my thieving ways—or rather the fact I got caught—I have to live the next three years as a cat, unable to shift back to my human form or use magic of any kind.
Just when I think I’m about to lose my mind for good, an agent breaks me free on the condition I’ll help with one of her cases. So now I must serve and protect, using my criminal wiles to catch others doing the same kinds of things that got me locked up in the first place.
It beats languishing at the cat rescue—sure—but will I be able to catch the super-powered bad guys without having any powers of my own to call on?

My name is Mags McAllister, and I really need to stop being surprised when new ghosts show up at my door.
Thanks to my special spectral feline Shadow, I have a largely unwanted link to the spirit realm—and word is starting to spread that I’m a good person to haunt for those who wish to button up their unfinished business.
This time, my new ghost has a voice of her own, and she is definitely not afraid to use it—to make demands, complain, and even to criticize my choice of clothing. Frankly, I’m eager to help her just, so that I can be rid of this 1950s era loudmouth.
Once she’s taken care of, maybe I can finally start getting my own life in order… and finally choose between the two men who each hold a piece of my fractured heart.
